Universal's Open Call Cafe' was envisioned as a real "themed" restaurant - a working industry place showcasing Universal Studios' film, television, music, multimedia, and recreation business activities.
A major focus of this place was the ongoing business of casting and placing extras, in Universal Studios music videos, television shows, movies, and theme park casts. As well, the ongoing process of auditions and actual filming, pre-production, and post-production work, was to be a showcase of the concept. As available, outtakes and bloopers from ongoing filming was to be included in the media displayed on-premise.
The 6,200 sq.ft. dining and bar area was planned to include a 300-seat main dining room and 80-seat bar. A 4,200 sq.ft. kitchen supported the operation for a planned hourly meal capacity of 275 with a table service style of operation.
The venue was planned with integrated experiential branding opportunities for sponsors and other corporate partners. Experience design included situations for consumer products companies such as coffee brands including Starbuck's or Maxwell House and refrigerated yogurt brands such Yoplait and Dannon, as examples
