Adventure Studios Climbs to New Heights.

John and Jake traveled to the mountains of Colorado to photograph the new Winnebago Brave as it travelled to the California RV show. The Rockies were the perfect backdrop to capture the beauty and adventure of Winnebago Life. The shoot was produced by Don Cohen, who also runs, who included a fun recap video and write up on that site.

Evinrude: 2013 Photo and Video Campaign

Experience, speed, and reliability. Sounds like a few of the reasons Evinrude Outboards and Cramer-Krasselt chose Adventure Studios for their full-line photo and video shoot this year. We took to the water in both Wisconsin and Florida with winged photo boats and helicopter to capture the speed and lifestyle of boating in front of an Evinrude. The video work is stunning, including slow motion gyro-stabilized Red Epic camera footage and underwater housing work. But that hasn’t been released yet, so in the meantime here’s a sampling of our still photography used for the latest brochure and other marketing efforts.

For more, see the work in the project pages on the Adventure Studios website:

John Linn Sits Down with Boating Magazine.

It’s no secret that Adventure™ Studios has an eye for great photography. John Linn, co-founder of Adventure and seasoned photographer, leads that charge. Since John began photographing boats in 1996, he has always brought his artistic precision together with the right moment to capture some of the most breathtaking boating images you’ll ever see.

While shooting for Nautic Global Group, Avalon, Crestliner, Glastron, Four Winns, Bayliner, Warrior and other leading brands, John never settles for anything but the perfect shot. His work for Bayliner even won Gold and Judge’s Choice awards at this year’s ADDY Competition. So we weren’t surprised when Boating Magazine asked John to share some of his secrets with readers in their July/August, 2012 edition.

As a contributing photographer for Boating Magazine, John was more than happy to offer up a few pointers for the perfect picture. From artful implements to technical advice, John supplied Boating Magazine with plenty of tips and tricks to help aspiring water-sport photographers get their focus.

John Linn Did What?

Imagine dragging knuckles to get the shot at 50 miles per hour. That’s what
Adventure™ Studios’ photographer John Linn did on a recent shoot for
Victory® Motorcycles and Accessories.

When planning for the motorcycle assignment, Linn knew he’d want the camera right above the asphalt, as close as possible to the subject bikes. So he had built a custom steel cage that mounts to the front and rear receiver hitches of the Adventure Studios pickup truck. Precision riders, a dedicated chase driver, headset communication, and gyro stabilization made the running shots possible.

We scouted around the region and chose the beautiful Lake Pepin area of southeastern Minnesota for its beauty and proximity. Then we got creative with staging and lighting for the static shots. We utilized Adventure’s two enclosed trailers to transport the subject bikes, pulling one behind the production RV, and the other behind the pickup.

Adventure hired assistance from the Six-Speed production team, and made efficient work of satisfying the shot list provided by Victory Motorcycle and Accessories’ agency, Planet Propaganda, to get these shots and more within the two day shoot. Many involved, including John and both of his assistants, had motorcycle endorsements and experience on two wheels – which was helpful for wrangling bikes and getting great shots of Victory’s 2013 Accessories Lineup. Adventure™ Star Recognized in the Lone Star State.

Adventure™ recently attended the 2012 National ADDY® Awards in Austin, TX to accept one of the most esteemed honors in advertising. We took home a National ADDY for “Red Bull Skate Athletes,” a photo series of professional skateboarders from Red Bull’s team.

John Linn, chief photographer for Adventure Studios, took the photographs while on assignment for Red Bull’s “Mississippi Grind.” At this event, Red Bull’s pros and several amateur skaters traveled the Mississippi River from Minnesota to New Orleans – on a barge that had been converted into a floating skate park.

The ADDY Awards is the largest creative advertising competition in the country, with more than 40,000 original entries competing from 200 United States markets. Of those 40,000, only 239 would go on to collect National ADDYs in 2012. Winning in Texas put Adventure in the company of the best and brightest advertising agencies and professionals in the United States.

Picture Us in Minneapolis.

Adventure Studios™ began in Brainerd, MN in 2005. Since then we’ve shot from east to west; from Canada to Mexico. And now we’ve expanded with another studio in the West Lake Calhoun area of Minneapolis. The location lets us tap into the cities’ creative culture, people and resources to better serve clients located in the metro and nationwide.

We share the space with SixSpeed, a firm that has relied on Adventure Studios for several photo shoots. This is a new location for both companies. Together, we’ll throw an open house party in mid-February. Invitations to join us in the City of Lakes will be mailed out in the coming weeks.

A Skate in the Park.

Leave it to Red Bull to create something like the Mississippi Grind Tour! Built on a massive barge, this floating skatepark traveled 1,705 miles from St. Paul to New Orleans. Our colleagues at Six Speed helped Red Bull produce and promote the event, and Adventure Studios handled the photography at stops in Davenport, St. Louis and New Orleans.

At each stop, we got great shots of professional Red Bull boarders showing off for thousands of spectators. Some of the big names included Zered Bassett, Ron Deily, Steven Webb, Ray Maldonado, Ryan Decenzo and Kenny Anderson. We also photographed amateur riders competing in Red Bull’s “Ticket to Grind” contest.

In addition to capturing action on the barge, we shot at an Iowa farm with a barn converted into a skate park. In St. Louis we got permission to ride in the City Museum for some very unique skateboarding images. And in New Orleans, we photographed pro riders as they took their skills down Bourbon Street.

You can see a wide selection of Mississippi Grind images at In addition to USA Today and other national news spots, these images continue to appear in skateboarding magazines and are distributed to media outlets through the Red Bull Content Pool (

Images That Leave Impressions.

In the bicycling industry, Park Tool is the king of tools. The brand loyalty among bike mechanics and do-it-yourself cyclists is huge. So when Park Tool needed photographs to break through the clutter and communicate their brand essence, this image left the strongest mark. It’s a nice example of how we combine marketing strategy, great photographs and masterful retouching to create brand ambassadors.
